Administrative
Support Specialist To
support administrative office staffs at Central Offices and in schools. Administrative
Technology Specialist To
support the administrative staff of all 37 New Hanover County Schools as well as
that of the Central Office with technology/computer issues, concerns, or
challenges. These include, but are often not limited to, software and hardware
training, problems, troubleshooting, advising, anticipation of needs,
installation of new systems, and various similar duties. Maintain SQL based
databases and the web interfaces Area
Network Coordinator Basic
understanding of how to install, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair a
variety of hardware utilized within a LAN /
WAN network environment,
including routers, servers, switches, cabling, and network interface cards.
Implementation and installation of software for all types of network
workstations and printers. Self starter, self motivator, with the ability to
achieve results in a fast-moving, fast changing environment.
Must be capable of teaching users in the characteristics, capabilities,
operation and limitations of software and hardware utilized in a network
environment. Area
Technical Coordinator Assist,
advise, and coordinate all computer and peripheral installations and repairs for
county schools and administrative offices. Support for computer resource
teachers with simple troubleshooting and maintenance instructions for their
school equipment. Install, troubleshoot, and maintain network interface
equipment using both PC and Macintosh platforms. Direct support for
Instructional Support, Network Support, and Technology Director with any and all
special projects. Attend training classes and seminars to maintain knowledge in
a constantly changing environment. Assistive
Technology and Augmentative Communication Specialist To
provide leadership in the development and implementation of a coordinated system
of high quality assistive technology and augmentative communication services
consistent with the New Hanover County Schools Quality Education Strategic Plan,
"A Vision
for the Future." (Audio/Visual)
Electronics Technician To
troubleshoot and repair audio,video and handheld computer equipment to component
level. Successful applicant must have strong interpersonal
communication skills. The ability
to assess, analyze, and resolve problems for customers is essential. Communications
Network Technician Responsible
for the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and repair of
communications equipment according to written and graphic specifications;
assists in the design and installation of communications cable; coordinates and
performs moves, additions, and changes to existing communications systems;
performs systems tests with standard communications test equipment; assists in
providing technical advice to end-users; answers questions to problems related
to communications; uses discretion and judgment to organize and perform
requested services promptly. Communications
Specialist To
provide efficient and cost effective telecommunications to New Hanover County
Schools (NHCS); to plan, direct, implement, and maintain the telecommunications
systems for the NHCS system; interpret and relate organizational
telecommunications needs to current technology solutions; analyze all
telecommunications technologies and implement the appropriate solution for the
NHCS system. GroupWise
Specialist To
provide efficient and cost effective email services to New Hanover County
Schools (NHCS); to plan, direct, implement, and maintain the email system for
the NHCS system; interpret and relate organizational communication needs to
current technology solutions; analyze email technologies and interoperability
with other district systems such as HMRS and implement the appropriate
solutions. Help
Desk Coordinator To provide technical
support over the phone and via email as the first point of contact to New
Hanover County Schools’ staff - including, but not limited to, technical
advice on equipment setup and operation, general troubleshooting and
hardware/software installation. Use excellent listening and customer service
skills while resolving computer problems in the NT/Novell, LAN/WAN environment.
Create a single repository for customer requests for service and logged calls.
Identify, diagnose, and resolve user problems or escalate problems to other
technicians for resolution. Track all calls/requests received through to final
resolution. Provide reports as
required to the appropriate technical area. Provide customers with timely
follow-up status reports. Analyze
call trends to facilitate pro-active problem response and follow-up and suggest
appropriate courses of action. Perform onsite network and PC repair as needed. K-5
Instructional Technology Specialist To
direct, manage, and coordinate special projects relating to instructional
technology and technical infrastructure: to assess, direct, coordinate, and
manage a staff development program that incorporates components such as
integration of technology into the curriculum, networking basics, and Internet
and email usage; to analyze relevant data and statistics, develop alternatives,
develop, produce, and make quality presentations for critical decision making
purposes; to coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside
agencies; to provide a variety of
professional, highly responsible administrative and technical support to the
Director of Technology, to the Assistant Superintendent for Planning,
Technology, and Operations and to the pre-k and elementary staff and students. LAN
Engineer To direct, manage, and coordinate projects
relating to the New Hanover County Schools Local Area Networks (LANs); These
responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Provide technical support for
LAN network issues; support preventative maintenance of network equipment and
software; and provide training for network area coordinators, technology staff,
and end users. Lead
Instructional Technology Specialist To assist with the
responsibilities of the director of technology, including supervision of the
instructional technology specialists, assistive technology specialist, media
support specialist and the webmaster. To direct, manage, and coordinate special
projects relating to instructional technology and technical infrastructure; to
assess, direct, coordinate, and analyze relevant data and statistics, develop
alternatives, and make quality presentations for critical decision making
purposes. Responsibilities include budget management; administration of a staff
development program that incorporates components such as integration of
technology into the curriculum, networking basics, Internet and email usage;
project management; implementation and evaluation of the New Hanover County
Schools’ Technology Plan; grant writing and oversight; collaboration with
senior staff, other departments, outside agencies and the community to ensure
that students, teachers, staff and school administrators are prepared to use
technology. This position works closely with schools and offices to provide a
variety of professional, highly responsible administrative and technical support
in the use of technology resources by students and staff. Mechanical
/ Electronic Foreman To
direct, and coordinate work assignments, pick up and delivery of equipment. Set up equipment for meetings by the county, Board of
Education and other departments of the school system onsite and at remote
locations. Maintain a running
inventory of parts for repair of all audiovisual/mechanical equipment. Maintain an inventory of parts for all machines used by
custodial staff. Media
Support Specialist To
coordinate the assessment and planning of the media center programs, advocate
media programs in the school and community, troubleshoot and support media
center software programs and media center computer/server related issues, and
support the school media center media specialists with book collections and
reports. Network
Security Administrator To direct, manage, and
coordinate projects relating to WAN and LAN network, firewall and desktop
security); to coordinate communication and work with outside agencies involved
with the WAN; to provide technical support; to provide preventative security
measures for network equipment and software; to provide training for network
area coordinators, technology staff, and end users; to prepare long and short
range plans for security network and security issues of the school system; to
prepare and expend budget requests. Speech
Language Pathology Assistant To
provide support services to the Assistive Technology program. These
responsibilities include, but are not limited to: servicing low and high tech
voice output device and adaptive peripherals, training staff in the programming
and use of devices, maintaining the district assistive technology database and
checkout system, tracking and maintaining LS2 grant documentation, deliver
materials and provide therapy sessions onsite at schools, participate in
providing staff development for programs, and create and maintain literacy kits
and therapy materials for checkout for classrooms Support
Associate III To
provide administrative/secretarial support to Technology Department Director and
staff; perform receptionist duties for Technology Department and computer labs;
handle registration for technology workshops held year-round throughout the
school system. Technology
Coordinator Grades 6-12 To
direct, manage, and coordinate special projects relating to instructional
technology and technical infrastructure: to assess, direct, coordinate, and
manage a staff development program that incorporates components such as
integration of technology into the curriculum, networking basics, and Internet
and email usage; to analyze relevant data and statistics, develop alternatives,
develop, produce, and make quality presentations for critical decision making
purposes; to coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside
agencies; to provide a variety of
professional, highly responsible and administrative and technical support to the
Director of Technology, to the Assistant Superintendent for Planning,
Technology, and Operations and to the middle and high schools. Technology
Director The
Director of Technology is primarily concerned with the development,
implementation, operation, monitoring, and evaluation of the technology program
for the school system. This individual provides leadership in identifying
hardware and software purchases, ensuring that they are consistent with the
school system instructional technology plan and state technology guidelines.
This employee coordinates, and may deliver, staff development on technology
competencies needed for teaching the North Carolina Computer/Technology Skills
Curriculum to students and for acquiring the required North Carolina Technology
Competencies for Educators needed for licensure renewal. The employee works
collaboratively with the other members of the school system central office staff
and school building staff to use technology and include technology applications
as an integral part of the total instructional program and operational program
(Facility Planning, Maintenance, Purchasing, Transportation, Finance, Child
Nutrition). This individual provides a variety of professional, highly
responsible and complex administrative and technical support to the Assistant
Superintendent for Planning, Technology, and Operations and the Superintendent
of schools. Computer
Repair Foreman To
manage and coordinate work orders and special projects relating to system and
software maintenance; to provide direct supervision and support to Area
Technical Coordinators; to direct, coordinate, and manage warranty issues with
vendor(s) and end user(s), analyze relevant data and statistics, develop
cost-effective alternatives; to
coordinate assigned activities with other department members;
to provide technical support to the 37 schools in the district, as well
as all administrative offices, and to facilitate the requisitioning of
replacement parts and supplies as needed. WAN
Engineer To
direct, manage, and coordinate projects relating to the New Hanover County
Schools Wide Area Network (WAN); to coordinate communication and work with
outside agencies involved with the WAN; to provide technical support for
employees of New Hanover County Schools; to provide preventative maintenance of
network equipment and software; to provide training for network area
coordinators, technology staff, and end users; to prepare long and short range
plans for the networking of the school system; to prepare and expend budget
requests. Webmaster To
establish the New Hanover County Schools’ presence on the World Wide Web. To
maintain the web server that will house all of the schools’ web pages, as well
as the web pages for the Central Office area of the school system. Be
responsible for design, site structuring , and ongoing site maintenance of the
website and training of the contact people at the 37 schools. Work closely with
Central Office department contacts as they update their web pages. Develop
documentation of processes and procedures including copyright information.
Establish standards for the appearance, feedback links and forms, and authoring
of web pages. Manage web projects and work cooperatively with other web page
developers. Develop web pages that will house critical functions such as Work
Requests for the Maintenance and Technology Departments. Update the school
system web pages on an as-needed basis so that they may be utilized as an
important communication tool for NHCS. Streamline
the communication of the school system by providing access to NHCS information
to the community at large. Provide leadership for the Web Oversite Committee. Work
Order Entry Clerk To provide limited
