Dr.
Alfred H. Lerch, Jr.
Superintendent of New Hanover County Schools
The
mission of New Hanover County Schools, in collaboration with our
parents and community is to provide children an excellent
education in a healthy and safe learning environment where they
are prepared with the critical skills to reach their full
potential in a 21st century global society.
NHCS has
established three long-term objectives to improve student
academic performance in all subject areas. The three objectives
are:
-
To
achieve 85% proficiency as measured by end-of-course and
end-of-grade test results by 2012
-
To
establish business and community partnerships with 50% of
New Hanover County Schools by 2012; and
-
To
have 100% of classrooms utilizing 21st century
technology by 2012.
In order
to accomplish these objectives all of our stakeholders will do
their part. The Board will set the climate through a strategic
plan. Administrative departments will provide quality
professional development, services and support for students,
staffs, administrators and parents. Schools will process and
monitor the intervention strategies they have stated in their
School Improvement Plans. Parents will be actively involved in
their children’s day to day education and the community will
support the schools through volunteerism and partnerships.
With the
student focus measures we currently have in place, I am
confident NHCS will continue to make strides of growth and the
long-term objectives will be mastered.
