 Scoring Sheet for Recount Narrative Writing
First Grade

 Note: The expectation is that the student exhibit these criteria by the end of 1st grade.
1. The student writes a recount narrative of a personal experience containing a minimum of three complete, coherent, and logically sequenced sentences that focus on a single topic.

 (7 possible points)

2. The student uses both standard and inventive spelling. The inventive spelling used can generally be read by others.

 (2 possible points)

3. The student uses common capitalization and and capitalizes the beginning words in sentences, "I", and proper nouns.

 (2 possible points)

4. The student uses common end punctuation correctly: periods, exclamation marks, and question marks.

 (2 possible points)

5. The student incorporates adequate spacing between words in a written piece.

 (2 possible points)

6. The student uses varied and appropriate descriptive language.

 (2 possible points)

7. The student uses extended and/or combined language.

 (2 possible points)

8. The student uses transition words to show the passage of time.

 (1 possible point)

 TOTAL SCORE = 20 points
