Throughout the school year, a class or group may choose to participate in "Parsley Today". Our show is usually broadcast live from somewhere on campus on Friday mornings. Classes often report about activities or projects the class has been studying. Sometimes the whole show is based around a central theme like safety, a Second Step Lesson, or a student council project. We have learned about such things as the metamorphosis of a butterfly, sign language, regions of North Carolina, healthy eating habits, animals, and holidays. We have even had a special "Are You Smarter than a 4th Grader?" show. Special editions of Parsley Today have included an interview with Representative Danny McComas, weatherman Mark McGinnis, Enrichment Clubs, and Book Character Week.

The production team consists of the Music Teacher and the Technology Assistant. Our equipment includes of a digital video camera that connects directly to the school network that allows broadcast to every classroom. This permits us to "take our show on the road" meaning we can broadcast from most any room in the school. With incredible teacher and student ingenuity, sets and costumes are created as appropriate. You'd be amazed at how many times a refrigerator box can be recycled! |
Here (Oct. 2004) Josh films his own class, Mrs. Postemski's 5th grade, as the students interview Mark McGinnis, weatherman from WWAY TV3. After learning about "taking the initiative", these students wrote to Mr. McGinnis and asked him if he would could come and let them interview him about the weather and being a weatherman. Josh began learning to be a cameraman when he was in 4th grade. |
