Demystifying Financial Aid

Seniors are given monthly scholarship newsletters in English 4 classes called "Cash for College". These are printed by the Counseling Office and also are posted outside of room 210.  The first issue will be available on Sept. 1st

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) needs to be filled out to be eligible for federal and state financial aid for college. This includes grants, loans, and work study. The forms are available in room 210, or a student can apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Students apply for financial aid in their senior year of high school, as soon as possible after January 1st. Priority deadline is March 15th.

Some private colleges and 1 public college in North Carolina (UNC-Chapel Hill) also require the CSS Profile form to be considered for aid. This form can be found at www.collegeboard.com.

The U.S. Department of Education’s office of Federal Student Aid is pleased to announce the release of FAFSA4caster, a new Web tool designed to assist high school juniors and their families plan for education beyond high school. Students can receive an estimated Expected Family Contribution (EFC) by entering their information into FAFSA4caster, a simplified version of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA4caster also provides guidance on next steps for applying for admission, applying for federal student aid, and paying for education beyond high school. www.fafsa4caster.ed.gov
