1. CFNC.org – Go to this website, click on “Paying for College”, then “Scholarships and Grants”.  Check out “Scholarship Wizard”, “Merit Based Scholarships” “Need Based Scholarship”, and “Other Scholarships and Grants”.  All for NC students!
   
2. Burger King Scholarship – Criteria include 2.5 GPA or higher, employed at least 15 hours per week, involved in community service, and financial need.  $1000 awards.  Go to www.bk.com/scholars.  Feb 2nd deadline.
   
3. NC High School Network – Two $1000 awards in NC.  Based on academic performance and financial need.  Return completed application to Mr. Schmidt in room 210 by November 19th.  Recommendations and extracurricular activities are also considered.
   
4. Society of American Military Engineers – $1000 to a local student interested in engineering.  See your counselor for application.  Apps must be received by 2/9/09.  Transcript, short essay, and activities are all considered.
   
5. Miller-Motte Business College – Four 1 tuition scholarships for 2009.  Programs include:  Cosmetology, Accounting, Criminal Justice, Massage, Paralegal, Surgical Tech, Medical Assisting, and Microcomputer Applications.  Call 1-800-784-2110 for more info.  Applicants must take a test at Miller Motte at various dates in November or December.
   
6. Robertson Scholars – Can be used at Duke or Carolina.  Very competitive! Go to www.robertsonscholars.org for more into.  Based on leadership and academics.
   
7. Toyota Community Scholars – One NHHS senior can be nominated.  Based on school activities, honors and awards, community service, GPA, and SAT.  100 scholarships are given out nationwide.  Pickup preliminary application from Mr. Schmidt in room 210 and return to him by 11/19/08.  $10,000 to $20,000.
   
8. KFC Scholars – For outstanding seniors with financial need and entrepreneurial spirit.  Must have at least a 2.75 GPA.  Awards are up to $20,000.  Apply Dec. 1 through Feb. 10 at www.kfcsholars.org. 
   
9. UNC-Asheville – Laurel and Leadership Scholarships – must apply by 11/15 to UNCA to be considered.  $1000 to full tuition.
   
10. McKelvey Foundation – for seniors who have demonstrated entrepreneurial spirit by owning and operating their own business while in high school.  1/25/09 deadline.  $40,000 of awards.  Apply at www.mckelveyfoundation.org. 
    
11. NC Wesleyan Singers Scholarship – See your counselor for more info.
    
12. Art Institute of Charlotte – Contests include “Best Teen Chef”, “Passion for Fashion”, and poster design competitions.  See your counselor or go to www.aich.artinstitutes.com for more info.
    
13. Ayn Rand – Essay contests.  $57,000 in prize money.   March deadline.  Go to www.aynrand.org/contests for more into.
