1. Civitan Scholarship – Several awards given to NH County seniors ranging from $1000 to $2500.   Based on essay, transcript, extracurricular involvement, and having some need.  Can be used at any college.  Completed applications are due to your counselor by April 5th. 
   
2. Cape Fear Community College Merit Scholarship – Each year CFCC grants 10 scholarships to local seniors going there.  Each award is worth $1800.  Based on transcript, community/school involvement, essay and recommendation.  Return application to your counselor by March 24th. 
   
3. SECU (People Helping People” Scholarship) –  One NHHS senior will receive a $10,000 scholarship to one of the 16 UNC system universities.  Must have at least a 2.5 GPA.  Based on character, integrity, leadership, and community involvement.  See Ms. Davis in room 210 for application.  Deadline for completed application is March 19, 2010.  Preference given to seniors whose parents are public sector employees.
   
4. Marine Corps League – For son/daughter of active Marine or Navy Corpsman or grandchild of retired Marine or Navy corpsman.  See you counselor for application.  Application must be received by April 30, 2010.
   
5. Kiwanis (UNCW) – For a senior going to UNCW.  Based on transcript, need, and school/community involvement.  Return completed application to your counselor by March 19th.  Scholarship is worth $1800 per year.
   
6. NC Bar Assoc. – For children of law enforcement officers killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty.  April 1st deadline.  See your counselor for info.
   
7. West Virginia Celebration – For a student originally from West Virginia or a son/daughter of a person from West Virginia.  Complete and return application by May 25th to your counselor.  $250 award.
   
8. Pilot Club – $1000 for a local student who plans to improve the lives of those affected with brain-related disorders (Special Ed teacher, medical, therapy).  April 25th deadline.  Criteria also include transcript, need, essay, and recommendations.
