New Hanover County High Schools Art Students

Compete in the 16th Annual Sidewalk Chalk Art Competition

New Hanover County High Schools 16th Annual Sidewalk Chalk Art Competition will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2009, at the Mayfaire Town Center, 6835 Conservation Way, Wilmington, NC, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  Each high school will be assigned a corner at the intersection of Main and Innovation Streets (near Pottery Barn and Eddie Bauer) to create their chalk designs.  A panel of judges will critique the artwork and one high school will receive a coveted plaque to be displayed at the school for one year. The awards ceremony will take place in front of the Mayfaire Cinema immediately following the judging.

The public is invited to observe the creation of the artwork by students from Ashley, Hoggard, Laney and New Hanover High Schools. Several middle school art students will also be on hand to observe and try their hand at smaller versions of chalk designs.

This event is sponsored by New Hanover County Schools and the Mayfaire Town Center.  For additional information, contact Georgeann Haas, NHCS’ Arts Education Supervisor, at 910-254-4290, or Paige McKenzie, at the Mayfaire Town Center, at 910-256-5131.
