2010 Recruiting/Application Process
To apply, the student must be in 8th grade and be ready to move on to 9th. It is a four-year program and requires students to start at the beginning of their high school career.
Admissions Requirements:
- Level III or IV on 8th grade EOGs in Reading, Math, and Writing
- Algebra I (Preferred)
- Completed Application
- Handwritten Essay
- Interview
- Excitement and highly motivated
- Responsible, focused, strong time management skills

Consider the differences of Isaac Bear:
- Laptops for all students.
- No organized sports teams, music or art programs offered through IBECHS.
- Students are required to participate in community service activities (50 documented hours are required each year).
- IBECHS is a non-traditional school setting where students are able to foster supportive relationships and receive a rigorous and relevant. accelerated curriculum.
- Isaac Bear is a small public* school, funded partially through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
- *Isaac Bear is part of the New Hanover County School system, which provides traditional transportation for all students and lunch.
- IBEC is a school of choice.
We are pleased that you have chosen to explore the possibility of applying to Isaac Bear Early College High School. Our application period is from January 11th through February 26th. All students interested in applying, must have their application turned in to their school counselor during this time period.

Noble and Trask at Noble library January (Thur) Feb 4th 6-7 p.m.
- Late February through month of March student interviews with IBEC administration and UNCW college liasion
- Week of April 12th applicant decision letters mailed
