Driver's Education

 

Spring 2010 Driver’s Education Information

Sign-up sheets and registration forms are available at the high schools.  Classes will be closed when full.

REGISTRATION FOR SPRING SESSION:
January 4 - January 15

Please see the Site Coordinator at the school for further information.

Students must have the following:

  • Parent present at parental meeting

  • Birth Certificate

  • Social Security Card

  • Glasses or Contacts, if needed

 

Goal:  To create a low-risk driver with control of their emotions and behavior, making the highways safe for everyone.

Driver's Eligibility Certificate
As of August 1, 1998, North Carolina has new legislation that reflects a coordinated state-wide effort to motivate all students to complete high school.  Students must maintain adequate academic progress (successfully pass three out of four classes per semester) towards a high school diploma or its equivalent to receive this certificate.
Level I- Limited Learner's Permit
Requirements for Level I:  
  • Must be 15 years old or older
  • Successfully complete Driver's Education
  • Receive Driver's Eligibility Certificate (DEC)
Guidelines for Level I:
  • For at least 12 months, the Level I driver must be supervised by parent, guardian or other approved licensed driver who has been licensed at least five years.
  • For the first six months, the Level I driver may only drive from 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m.
  • For the second six months, the Level I driver may drive at any time with his/her supervisor.
Level II- Limited Provisional License
Requirements for Level II:
  • No violations during the last six months of Level I.
  • Driver's Eligibility Certificate
Guidelines for Level II:
  • Unsupervised driving is allowed between 5:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. or when driving to or from work.
  • Supervised driving is allowed at any time.
Level III- Full Provisional License
Requirements for Level III:
  • No violations during the last six months of Level II.
  • Driver's Eligibility Certificate
Guidelines for Level III:
  • Unsupervised driving is allowed at any time.
  • Level III driver is subject to all other conditions of provisional license.
